Highlights from the Elective Pilot
The inaugural cohort of students on Moorish Spain: The Architecture & Cuisine of Andalusia, learning about the differences between Roman and Arab urban design.
Elective’s pilot course wrapped up last week in Andalusia, and it was a fantastic success.
Over the span of a week, our first cohort of students got to be part of a true study abroad experience. Here are some highlights:
Field Seminars
Classes were held out in the streets, palaces, churches, mosques, gardens, markets, and tapas bars of Córdoba and Seville.
Self-Guided Study
Participants had free afternoons to follow their own paths—taking the course themes in directions that resonated with them.
Daily Discussions
The cohort met regularly to connect the Field Seminar topics with their personal experiences and discoveries.
Extracurriculars
A live Flamenco show and a guided sherry tasting, each enriched with context from the Facilitator, offered an even deeper immersion into Andalusian culture.
Thank you to our first cohort of students for bringing Elective to life!
A historical tapas tasting includes several different types of gazpachos and understanding how they evolved.
